Colorado Fall Colors Near Beaver Creek

There are quite a few famous places to view fall colors in Colorado- the Peak to Peak highway near Nederland, the Roaring Fork Valley, which Aspen and Snowmass call home, Crested Butte, and the Dallas Divide between Ridgway and Telluride immediately come to mind.

I’ve often wondered what lay on the north side of the Holy Cross Wilderness near Vail and Beaver Creek. While the east side of the wilderness is heavily traveled by people seeking to climb Mount of the Holy Cross and the south side of the wilderness is often visited for its legendary off-roading, I didn’t know what to expect for the more remote northern side.

This past weekend, Jen, Keetna and I headed up to Edwards, CO (in the Vail Valley near Beaver Creek) to celebrate Jen’s new job and see if we could discover a new hiking location to check out Colorado’s legendary fall colors.

Rarotonga, Cook Islands by Way of Auckland, NZ

Several years ago, while waiting in the checkout line at a grocery store, I saw a magazine with “Places to Go Before You Die” Theme. On the cover was a photo of a gorgeous island landscape. Steep, tropical mountains rising out of teal blue water. I opened the first page to see where the photograph was taken- Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

I’d heard a little about the Cook Islands while living in New Zealand, but never really seen what they looked like or even where they were, except for a vague understanding that they were somewhere in the South Pacific. After seeing that magazine cover, I was sold. I promised myself I’d go to the Cook Islands someday.

A Weekend in Vancouver

A Weekend in Vancouver

Last summer, Jen and I flew up to Vancouver, BC for a quick weekend trip. It turned out to be a great little adventure.

We stayed downtown, and visited the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, Lynn Canyon Park, VanDusen Botanical Gardens and we ate some delicious Korean and Japanese food downtown.
